Diversity Visa FY2027 — Tips & Guidance

Registration Period

The DV-2027 entry window is expected to open in October 2025 and close in early November 2025.

  • Entries are accepted only during this period.
  • Apply online at dvprogram.state.gov.

Registration Fee

Starting with DV-2027, a non-refundable $1 fee is required at registration, paid through the official DOS system.

Beware: no third-party websites are authorized to charge additional fees.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Born in an eligible country;
  • High-school education or equivalent OR 2 years of qualifying work experience in the last 5 years.

Photo Requirements

  • Recent (≤ 6 months), square, white background;
  • No glasses, no filters;
  • Each family member must have a compliant photo.

Family Information

List all spouses and all unmarried children under 21 (including adopted and stepchildren) — or face disqualification.

Confirmation Number

Keep it safe — it’s the only way to check results in May 2026. DOS does not send emails/letters to winners.

If Selected

Complete DS-260, collect civil/financial docs, pass medical exam, and attend the visa interview within FY DV-2027.

FAQ — Additional Requirements / Criteria

Education or Work Experience

You must meet one of the following:

  • Completed secondary education (12 years of schooling or equivalent)
  • OR within the last 5 years — at least 2 years of work experience in a qualifying occupation requiring ≥2 years of training/experience
Photo Requirements

Photos must be less than 6 months old and meet U.S. Department of State standards regarding size, lighting, background, and other criteria.

Application Limitation

One applicant = one entry per lottery year. Multiple entries will result in automatic disqualification.

Stage 1 — Initial Entry

Required:

  • Passport — personal data (name, birth date, place of birth, passport number)
  • Digital photos of applicant, spouse, and children (if any), compliant with DOS standards

Stage 2 — After Selection (Interview Preparation)

If selected, you will need:

  • Valid passport
  • Birth certificate (original + notarized English translation)
  • Marriage/divorce/death certificates (if applicable)
  • Birth certificates of all children listed
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Employment records (if qualifying via work experience)
  • Police certificates from all countries of residence (6+ months after age 16)
  • Military records (if applicable)
  • Medical examination from an authorized physician (sealed envelope)
  • Financial documents (recommended, not always required): bank statements, property ownership, affidavit of support from U.S. sponsor
Stage 3 — Important Notes
  • All documents must be translated into English with notarization
  • Provide strictly truthful information — inconsistencies will lead to refusal
